Nineteen people were killed and sixteen others were injured after two adjacent four-story residential buildings collapsed late Tuesday night in the Al-Mustaqbal neighborhood of the Massira area in Fes, Morocco.

Local authorities in Fes said the death toll remains a preliminary figure. The two buildings were home to eight families.

According to Morocco’s official news agency, all injured individuals were transported to the University Hospital Center in Fes, where they are undergoing examinations and receiving necessary treatment.

Search and rescue operations continue as teams work to locate any remaining people who may be trapped under the rubble. Emergency crews have been fully mobilized to reach anyone still missing.

Authorities have also launched an urgent investigation to determine the causes of the sudden collapse and to identify any potential responsibility in an effort to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
