  • UN special rapporteur calls 'Israeli' campaign in Gaza genocidal.
  • Over 70,000 killed since October, mostly women and children.

Francesca Albanese, the United Nations special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, on Monday condemned what she described as the “brutality of the Israeli genocide” in Gaza.

Albanese said the campaign has been carried out “with the complicity of far too many states.”

“At the Doha Forum I denounced the brutality of the Israeli genocide, carried out with the complicity of far too many States,” Albanese wrote on the social media platform X.

She urged the international community to act swiftly, adding, “The States who want to preserve what remains of multilateralism must build new alliances fast, and stand as UNITED NATIONS for real, cornering the bullies.”

Since October, 'Israeli' forces have killed more than 70,000 people in Gaza, the majority of them women and children, an operation widely described as genocidal by countries and human rights groups. South Africa’s 2023 case at the International Court of Justice accusing 'Israel' of genocide in Gaza remains ongoing.

A ceasefire agreed two months ago has not stopped 'Israeli' violations, Albanese noted. Her October report, Gaza Genocide: a collective crime, highlighted the role of “third states” in providing material support, diplomatic protection, and, in some instances, active participation in 'Israeli' military operations.
