At least seven people were injured on Monday when Russian drones struck a residential building in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Okhtyrka, Sumy region, local officials said.

Oleksiy Hryhorov, the governor of Sumy, reported on Telegram that the injured were taken to hospital, with two remaining for treatment while the others were discharged after receiving medical care.

The multi-story building sustained significant damage. Some residents reached the basement following early warnings of air raids, while emergency crews rescued others from upper floors, Hryhorov added.

The Sumy region, bordering Russia, has been subjected to near-daily shelling and drone attacks since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, a conflict now approaching its fourth year.

Reuters has not independently verified the report, and there has been no immediate comment from Moscow regarding the attack.

Both sides deny targeting civilians, though the war has resulted in thousands of deaths, the vast majority of them Ukrainians.
