Two Palestinian brothers, aged 11 and eight, were killed in a drone strike in southern Gaza, sparking widespread outrage and direct criticism of the Israeli Occupation Forces’ (IOF) claims.

Fadi Abu Assi, 11, and Goma Abu Assi, eight, were gathering firewood for their wheelchair-bound father near a school sheltering displaced people in Beni Suhaila when the strike occurred, their uncle, Mohamed Abu Assi, said. “They are children…what did they do? They do not have missiles or bombs. They went to gather wood for their father so he could start a fire,” he added.

Nasser Hospital confirmed both boys were killed in the strike. At the funeral, their father was seen weeping over one of the children, whose white shroud had been pulled back to show his face.

The IOF had shared a tweet about the incident, describing the victims as “two suspects who crossed the yellow line, carried out suspicious activities, and approached troops in southern Gaza, posing an immediate threat,” claiming its forces “eliminated the suspects to remove the threat.” Community Notes on Twitter quickly challenged this account, pointing out that the “suspects” were in fact two young children.

The strike comes amid a fragile ceasefire in Gaza brokered in October 2025, during which both 'Israel' and Hamas have accused each other of violations. Since the truce took effect on Oct. 10, at least 352 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

The deaths of Fadi and Goma Abu Assi expose 'Israel's' indifference to the children harmed in its attacks on Gaza. Since Oct. 7, 2023, a total of 70,112 Palestinians were killed, most of whom were children and women.
