Candace Owens claims France, ‘Israel’ plotted to kill her

American political commentator and author Candace Owens has triggered global controversy after claiming that French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron authorized and funded a plot to assassinate her, an allegation that remains unverified.

In a post on X on Friday, Owens said a “high-ranking employee of the French Government” provided her with “concrete proof” that the Macrons had “executed upon and paid for my assassination.”

Claims involve elite French unit and ‘Israeli’ agent

Owens alleged that the French National Gendarmerie Intervention Group (GIGN) - an elite counter-terrorism and hostage rescue unit - was given the “green light” to carry out the operation. She added that “one Israeli” operative was part of the alleged team and that “the plans were formalized.”

The claims dramatically escalate her feud with the French First Lady, who has filed a defamation lawsuit against Owens in the United States.

Escalation of an existing legal war

This extraordinary public allegation comes amidst an escalating legal battle between the parties. In July 2025, Brigitte and Emmanuel Macron filed a high-profile defamation lawsuit against Candace Owens in the United States, specifically over Owens's repeated claims that the French First Lady was born a man and transitioned to a woman.

The Macrons' lawsuit, filed in a Delaware court, seeks substantial damages and accuses Owens of engaging in a "campaign of global humiliation" and spreading "demonstrably false" claims for "the pursuit of fame." Owens has used the Macrons' legal action to rally her followers, asserting it is an attack on her free speech by a foreign government.

The Macrons' legal team has since stated they plan to submit "scientific evidence" in court, including photos of Mrs. Macron with her children, to prove the falsity of the gender-related allegations.

Owens links threats to Charlie Kirk’s assassination

In her post, Owens also connected the alleged plot to the killing of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated in September 2025. She claimed the attacker “trained with the French legion 13th brigade,” and suggested the same forces involved in Kirk’s killing are now targeting her.

These claims mirror earlier theories circulated after Kirk’s death, none of which have been verified.

The notion of a French state-sponsored assassination, while sensational, recalls the controversial history of France's foreign intelligence service, the Directorate-General for External Security (DGSE), and its predecessors:
