A series of intense airstrikes by the ‘Israeli’ army targeted multiple areas in southern Lebanon on Saturday, including locations in the eastern and central parts of the country, as well as the Beqaa Valley, according to informed sources. The escalation coincides with Lebanon’s Independence Day, adding to the gravity of the situation.

The attacks mark a widening of military operations and raise fears of heightened tensions along the Lebanese front.

Targets and areas affected

Sources reported that the strikes hit multiple sites across southern Lebanon, including the Safi Heights, Sajid area, and Al-Jbour Heights in the Nabatieh region. In the Beqaa Valley, the vicinity of the town of Shamshtar in eastern Beqaa was also struck, indicating an extension of operations deeper into Lebanese territory.

Hebrew media confirmed that the 'Israeli' Air Force had launched a broad wave of airstrikes in the Beqaa Valley and the Nabatieh area amid rising tensions along the border.

Earlier drone strike in Nabatieh

The escalation follows a drone strike earlier in the day in Zawtar al-Sharqi, Nabatieh district, which killed one person. A security source said the drone targeted a vehicle with a direct missile strike, completely destroying it and igniting a fire, in what is described as a documented targeted killing.

Implications

The widespread airstrikes in Beqaa and other interior areas underscore violations of Lebanese sovereignty and signal a continuation of ‘Israeli’ military escalation against deeper targets. Analysts warn that the attacks increase the risk of the situation spiraling into a larger conflict in the region, casting a shadow over Lebanon’s Independence Day celebrations.
