UNIFIL reported that an 'Israeli' tank fired near its peacekeeping forces close to a position established by ‘Israel’ inside Lebanon.

The peacekeepers were forced to take cover but were able to withdraw safely after the 'Israeli' tank withdrew, and no injuries were reported.

UNIFIL described the incident as a serious violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and called on the 'Israeli' army to halt any attacks on its forces.

Earlier Saturday, the Lebanese presidency said President Joseph Aoun instructed Foreign Minister Joseph Raji to task Lebanon’s permanent UN mission with submitting an urgent complaint to the Security Council.

The complaint alleges that 'Israel’s' construction of the wall along the southern border crosses the Blue Line, the UN-demarcated withdrawal line established after 'Israel’s' withdrawal in 2000.
