British actor and comedian John Cleese has canceled his upcoming performances in 'Israel', organizers announced Monday. Cleese, famed for Monty Python and Fawlty Towers, was scheduled for a series of sold-out “An Evening With John Cleese” shows in late November and early December.

The production company, Alon Yurik Productions, cited pressure from BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) groups as the reason for the cancellation.

In recent months, the 86-year-old comedian has been vocal online about 'Israel’s' policies, the situation in Gaza, and the treatment of Palestinians. On X, he questioned whether criticism of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu constitutes antisemitism, echoing remarks by former Irish President Michael D. Higgins.

Cleese has also shared posts critical of the BBC’s coverage of the aggression on Gaza. The cancellation comes amid wider debates in the entertainment industry about performing in 'Israel' during the ongoing aggression in Gaza.
