The Jerusalem Governorate issued an urgent warning on Wednesday regarding the potential collapse of parts of the Al-Aqsa Mosque due to the continued and escalating excavation work carried out by the Israeli occupation around its perimeter and deep within the Old City.

In an official statement, the Governor's Office asserted that these intensive and continuous works now pose a direct structural danger to the foundations of the mosque and its historic buildings.

Escalating Excavations Under Al-Aqsa

The Jerusalem Governorate said that the Israeli occupation authorities and their settlement organizations have recently intensified the pace of underground drilling, specifically in the area adjacent to the southern and western walls of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The statement noted that these excavations extend through a complex network of tunnels aimed at altering the historical and geographical reality beneath Haram al-Sharif

Old City Buildings Showing Cracks

The warning was not limited to the immediate vicinity of the mosque, but covered the entire Old City. The Governor's Office confirmed that the continuation of these works has led to the appearance of clear cracks and fissures in many adjacent residential and historical buildings.

The Governorate warned that the continuous removal of soil and the creation of deep underground voids are weakening the foundations supporting the Al-Aqsa Mosque structures. This raises the probability of a "sudden collapse" of parts of the mosque and endangers the lives of worshipers.
