MBS to meet Trump in Washington next month: AFP
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump during a visit to Washington next month, a source close to the Saudi government told Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Tuesday.
November Visit Confirmed
The source, who requested anonymity, stated that the Crown Prince, referred to as MBS, will begin a three-day visit on Nov. 17, and will hold talks with Trump the day after his arrival.
The leaders are expected to discuss a number of political, economic, and security issues, the same source said.
Discussions Follow Cease-Fire
News of the visit emerged days after a fragile cease-fire in the Gaza Strip, mediated by Trump, went into effect.
Prior to the unprecedented events on Oct. 7, 2023, Saudi Arabia had been engaged in US-brokered negotiations with ‘Israel’ regarding the normalization of diplomatic ties.
However, those negotiations stalled with the start of the assault on Gaza.
Riyadh has tied normalization to the establishment of a Palestinian state, making the prospect of a deal between the two countries unlikely in the current context.
