Closed doors for Catalan match against 'Israeli' club following security warnings
Catalan club Baxi Manresa will play its upcoming EuroCup fixture against 'Israel’s' Hapoel Jerusalem behind closed doors on Wednesday due to security concerns and planned protests related to the war in Gaza.
The decision comes after consultations with local authorities and law enforcement, with organizers emphasizing the need to “guarantee safety” while fulfilling competition obligations.
Manresa City Council also suspended all sporting activities in the Congost area from 2 p.m. on Wednesday ahead of the 9 p.m. game, citing security risks associated with demonstrations organized by local activist groups opposing the match.
Spain’s State Commission Against Violence had previously classified the game as a high-risk event, recommending reinforced security measures to ensure public safety.
