‘Israel’ will not release senior Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti as part of the prisoner exchange agreement reached with Hamas, government spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian said Thursday.
“I can confirm at this stage that he will not be part of this release deal,” she told reporters.
Barghouti, imprisoned for over two decades, is considered a unifying figure among Palestinians and a prominent Fatah leader. He took part in both the First Intifada in 1987 and the Second Intifada in 2000, survived several assassination attempts, and is serving five life sentences.

Bedrosian added that ‘Israel’ has reached “a decisive point in this war,” saying all objectives set by the Prime Minister have been achieved. She said the government made “difficult decisions to reach this moment.”
Regarding the ceasefire in Gaza, Bedrosian stated it will take effect within 24 hours after the cabinet meeting, confirming that the army will redeploy along the “yellow line,” which she said would mean controlling about 53 percent of Gaza.
