Gaza government issues urgent warning as strip prepares for potential ceasefire
- Gaza government issues urgent caution amid reports of imminent ceasefire.
- Citizens advised to avoid main roads.
- Warning applies to both north-south travel and surrounding areas.
The Gaza government media office issued an urgent statement Thursday morning, urging citizens to exercise extreme caution as a ceasefire agreement between Palestinian factions and 'Israel' is imminent.
The statement specifically warned against traveling on the main and coastal roads across the Gaza Strip until an official announcement is made. Authorities highlighted Al-Rashid Street (coastal) and Salah al-Din Street (inland) as critical arteries connecting the north and south of the territory and advised residents to avoid movement on these streets and the surrounding areas in both directions.
The media office explained that the advisory is intended to protect civilians, stating that it comes “in anticipation of any breaches or attacks that the Israeli Occupation may carry out at zero hour.”
- Call to wait for official announcement -
Citizens were urged not to rely on media leaks or unofficial reports when making decisions about movement or returning home, with the statement emphasizing, “not to feel fully assured until a clear and confirmed official announcement is issued by the competent Palestinian authorities.”
The statement concluded by reaffirming that “protecting lives is a national priority and a collective responsibility.” This marks the first official guidance from a government entity in Gaza addressing the potential on-the-ground consequences of the forthcoming ceasefire, lending weight to reports that an agreement is near.
