Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Tuesday that she and two of her ministers have been reported to the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged complicity in genocide in connection with 'Israel’s' offensive in Gaza.

Speaking in an interview with state broadcaster RAI, Meloni confirmed that Defence Minister Guido Crosetto and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani had been denounced, and added that she believed Roberto Cingolani, head of defence group Leonardo, was also implicated.

“I don’t believe there is another case like this in the world or in history,” Meloni said. She did not provide details on who had filed the case against her and her ministers.

Italy has witnessed a wave of demonstrations over the past week, with hundreds of thousands taking to the streets to protest the mass killings in Gaza. Many protesters also directed criticism at Meloni’s government.

Her right-wing administration, traditionally a strong supporter of 'Israel', has recently expressed concern over what it calls the “disproportionate” nature of 'Israel’s' offensive in Gaza, though it has maintained commercial and diplomatic ties and has not formally recognized the state of Palestine.

Meloni expressed surprise at the ICC accusation, stating: “Anyone who knows the situation is aware that Italy has not authorized new, let’s say, arms supplies to Israel after October 7.”

A spokesperson for Leonardo said that Cingolani had already addressed the matter in an interview with Corriere della Sera, describing the accusation of complicity in genocide as “a very serious frame-up.”
