Belgium summons ‘Israeli’ ambassador over Gaza flotilla interception

Belgium on Thursday summoned the ‘Israeli’ ambassador in a firm diplomatic move to protest the ‘Israeli’ navy’s interception of the Global Sumud flotilla in international waters, and the arrest of seven Belgian citizens on board. 

Maxime Prevot, Belgium’s foreign minister said the move was “unacceptable.”

"The manner in which they were boarded and the location in international waters are unacceptable, which is why I summoned the ambassador," Prevot told lawmakers in Brussels.

This comes amid a wave of international condemnation following the ‘Israeli’ interception of the flotilla. 

Other responses included Colombia, which expelled diplomats from Tel Aviv, and France, which demanded guarantees for the safety of its citizens.
