Flotilla approaches Gaza: Less than 200 nautical miles away

The Global Sumud Flotilla, an international effort to break the 18-year-long 'Israeli' blockade of the Gaza Strip, announced that its ships are now less than 200 nautical miles from Gaza and approximately 50 nautical miles from the high-risk zone.

In anticipation of potential clashes and casualties, 'Israel’s' Health Ministry has raised the alert status at several hospitals, a situation complicated by limited staffing during the Yom Kippur holiday.

The flotilla’s advance recalls previous incidents involving the ships Madeleine and Handala, which were intercepted by Israeli forces in June and July before reaching Gaza.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s coast guard reported on Monday that it had evacuated hundreds of passengers from an aid ship preparing to join the flotilla after a sudden water leak was discovered shortly after departure.

Sailing from Greek ports, the flotilla consists of about 50 vessels and is described by organizers as the largest coordinated attempt yet to break the blockade.

More than 500 activists from 40 countries are participating, under a coalition that includes the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, the Global Gaza Movement, and the Steadfastness Convoy.

Previously, the flotilla reported being about 825 kilometers from Gaza and noted that two drones had flown over its ships without launching attacks. Last Wednesday, organizers said nine of their ships were struck by 12 drone explosions, causing material damage to several vessels.

The situation remains tense as the flotilla continues its approach, with both sides on high alert for potential confrontations.
