Hezbollah organized a massive gathering on Thursday evening at Raouche Rock along Beirut’s Corniche to mark the first anniversary of the assassination of its former Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah and his successor Hashim Safi al-Din.

Supporters of the party attended in large numbers, waving Hezbollah flags and using loudspeakers throughout the event. The gathering featured light projections on Raouche Rock displaying images of Nasrallah and Safi al-Din. Another projection showed Nasrallah alongside former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and former Prime Minister Saad Hariri.

Lebanese army units were deployed around the area to secure the event, ensure the safety of participants, and maintain public order.

The event sparked strong criticism from Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, who described the gathering as a “blatant violation” and “an overturning of commitments.” Salam said he had requested that the Ministers of Interior, Justice, and Defense take the necessary steps to hold those responsible accountable and refer them for investigation.

Salam’s reaction followed Hezbollah’s use of light projections on Raouche Rock, which he said directly violated the conditions of the permit issued by the Beirut governor. He clarified that the permit was explicitly for a gathering only and strictly forbade illuminating Raouche Rock from land, sea, or air, or broadcasting any images on it.

The Prime Minister condemned the act as “a new lapse” that undermines the organizer’s credibility in dealing with the state and its institutions. He emphasized that the incident would not deter the government from its mission to rebuild the rule of law and institutional authority, stating that it “strengthens our determination to fulfill this national duty.”
