Spain’s government has approved a royal decree formalizing a total arms embargo on ‘Israel’ and banning products from settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, Economy and Trade Minister Carlos Cuerpo announced.

The move marks the latest escalation in Spain’s criticism of ‘Israel’s' offensive in Gaza over the past two years.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez had previously revealed nine measures aimed at halting what he described as “the genocide in Gaza,” including an arms embargo and a ban on vessels supplying fuel to the ‘Israeli’ military from docking at Spanish ports, measures now beginning to take effect.

Sánchez, a left-wing leader, has been one of the most outspoken critics of the war in Gaza, becoming the most senior European official to call it a genocide while also pushing for recognition of a Palestinian state.

‘Israel’ has consistently accused the PM and his government of antisemitism in response to their actions.
