Iran has executed at least 1,000 people so far in 2025, an NGO said Tuesday, describing it as a "mass killing campaign" in the country’s prisons.

The Norway-based Iran Human Rights (IHR) NGO counts and verifies execution in Iran on a daily basis.

At least 64 executions happened this week alone, the NGO added.

This year, Iran stepped up a series of executions of individuals accused of spying for Mossad, the ‘Israeli’ intelligence agency.

Two men, Babak Shahbazi and Rhouzbeh Vadi, were recently executed on charges of spying for 'Israel.'

"Babak Shahbazi... was executed by hanging this morning following due legal process and the confirmation of his sentence by the Supreme Court," the judiciary's Mizan Online news website said.

In Vadi’s case, Iranian authorities said the man was specifically convicted for passing information about an Iranian nuclear scientist to Mossad, which recruited him online and later met him in Vienna, accusing him of undermining national security.

Other than Mossad spies, Iran executed Mehdi Asgharzadeh, a man charged for being part of Daesh and plotting a sabotage after undergoing military training in Syria and Iraq.
