  • Canada, Australia, and the UK formally recognize Palestine, joining over 150 UN member states.
  • Leaders say recognition is vital to preserve the two-state solution.
  • 'Israel' and the US strongly oppose the move, warning it undermines peace efforts.

Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom have officially recognized the State of Palestine, joining more than 150 countries worldwide in a coordinated push to revive the two-state solution.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Ottawa could “no longer wait” for a negotiated peace agreement, citing 'Israel’s' settlement expansion in the West Bank, the war in Gaza, and the erosion of prospects for Palestinian statehood.

He emphasized that recognition empowers the Palestinian Authority, not Hamas, and reaffirmed Canada’s support for 'Israel’s' security within a two-state framework.

Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced a similar declaration alongside Foreign Minister Penny Wong, calling recognition a reflection of Australia’s “longstanding commitment” to peace and security for both peoples.

The UK also issued its recognition on Sunday, in line with France, Belgium, and Portugal, which have taken similar steps ahead of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The coordinated move marks a major diplomatic shift among Western powers, despite opposition from 'Israel' and warnings from US President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers, who argue that recognition rewards Hamas and undermines negotiations.

Palestinian officials welcomed the announcements, calling recognition a “prerequisite for peace.”
