Nurse gets death penalty in Jordan for dismembering friend in horrific murder case
The Grand Criminal Court on Wednesday sentenced a 36-year-old nurse to death by hanging after he was convicted of the premeditated murder of his friend.
The nurse was found guilty of dismembering the body and discarding parts, which were discovered in the Salhoub area in the governorate of Balqa last year.
The court issued its ruling in a public session, convicting the nurse, who has been in custody since last July, of premeditated murder.
Details of the Crime
According to the indictment, the defendant asked the victim to ride with him and put his phone on airplane mode. The victim, who trusted the defendant, complied. The defendant then took the victim to his home in northern Jordan.
Upon entering the home, the defendant prepared an IV drip and told the victim he would give him a nerve relaxant for back pain, from which the victim suffered.
The victim hesitated, but the defendant reassured him. As soon as the sedative was injected, the victim lost consciousness. The defendant then dragged him into the bathroom, where he had prepared a saw and a knife, and proceeded to stab and dismember him.
Forensic Evidence and Confession
The indictment stated that a person found a part of the victim's body in Salhoub the next day. The forensic lab later confirmed the remains belonged to the victim, and phone records revealed the defendant was the last person to call him.
The defendant confessed to the murder before the prosecutor general of the Grand Criminal Court and guided the criminal investigation team to the locations of the remaining body parts.
A liver sample confirmed the victim was injected with a sedative.
