Hamas: Attack on Doha 'failed attempt' to assassinate our negotiating delegation
The Palestinian resistance group Hamas accused 'Israel' of attempting to assassinate its negotiating delegation in the Qatari capital Doha, describing the strike as a “failed attack targeting the entire negotiation process,” while holding the United States “fully complicit” in the operation.
In a statement on Thursday, senior Hamas official Fawzi Barhoum said the attempted assassination “reflects Israel’s search for an illusory image of victory,” noting that the strike occurred “as the delegation was discussing a ceasefire proposal.”
Barhoum stressed that “this crime proves Netanyahu and his government alone bear responsibility for obstructing the negotiations,” adding that “the US administration is a full partner in this crime by providing cover and continuous support for Tel Aviv against our people.”
He went on to call the strike “not only an assault on Qatar, but a declaration of war on Arab states,” urging “immediate Arab action” to confront what he described as aggression that endangers both regional and international security.
Despite the attack, Barhoum underlined that Hamas would not alter its stance: “The Zionist entity’s heinous crime will not change our firm positions or clear demands to end the aggression. Threats of assassination will not deter our leadership from defending our people’s rights; they will only strengthen our resolve.”
Concluding his remarks, Barhoum expressed solidarity with Qatar: “We fully stand with the State of Qatar, its Emir, government, and people, and value all the positions of support for Doha and rejection of the Israeli occupation’s aggression.”
