Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi, warned that the Arab world faces an “unprecedented challenge” threatening collective security, stability, and the future of the entire region.

Speaking at the 164th ordinary session of the Arab League Council, Safadi accused the ‘Israeli’ government of attempting to redraw the region’s map and impose its dominance, stressing that the only path to peace is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Safadi directly accused ‘Israel’ of pursuing policies aimed at “changing the region’s map to impose Israeli hegemony over our Arab world.”

He added that ‘Israel’ seeks to turn Gaza into “an uninhabitable wasteland as part of a colonial displacement plan,” while simultaneously “besieging Palestinians in the occupied West Bank to drive them from their land.”

“The danger of Israeli aggression is escalating, threatening our entire Arab system and the security of our region,” Safadi stressed.

Firm Jordanian positions

  • Safadi said Jordan “stands firmly on its red line - rejecting the displacement of Palestinians from their homeland - warning it would be a crime we will confront with all our means.”
  • He stressed that Jordan dedicates all its capabilities to counter “any attempts to alter the historical and legal status of occupied Jerusalem.”
  • Safadi condemned ‘Israel’s’ “illegal measures” in the occupied West Bank.
  • He denounced statements by extremists in the ‘Israeli’ government calling to impose sovereignty on occupied Palestinian land, saying “we reject them completely.”
  • Safadi reiterated that “Israel openly declares it wants to change the region’s map, disregards international law, and has no restraint for human values - it has destroyed Gaza.”

Regional issues

Beyond Palestine, Safadi affirmed Jordan’s regional stances:

  • Support for all efforts to resolve crises and overcome challenges in Libya and Yemen.
  • Solidarity with Sudan’s unity of land and people, rejecting any attempts to undermine it, and calling for an immediate ceasefire.
  • Support for Lebanon’s security, sovereignty, and stability, along with backing the Lebanese state’s efforts to strengthen its institutions.

Call for a comprehensive Arab strategy

The foreign minister urged collective Arab action under a comprehensive strategy to confront these threats.

“We must work together - politically, economically, legally, and defensively - using all available tools to safeguard our future and our interests,” he said.

He stressed that the region’s right to live in peace can only be achieved by fulfilling the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

Two-state solution conference

Outlining a diplomatic vision, Safadi said that “a two-state solution conference will be a cry for Palestinian rights,” and also “a reaffirmation of the Palestinian and Arab strategic choice to achieve a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace.”

On Syria

Safadi expressed Jordan’s support for “Syria’s efforts to rebuild on foundations that ensure its security, stability, and sovereignty.”
