"Leading global experts just confirmed what we've long known: Gaza is in famine," Mamdani's statement reads. "At least half a million Palestinians are facing starvation, acute malnutrition and death. And it's likely to spread."
The message shared by Bartlett also included a direct call to action, stating, "The U.S. government is not a bystander to this genocide. We can end it today."

By sharing the post, Bartlett joins other celebrities in drawing attention to the ongoing crisis and amplifying calls for international intervention.
Earlier Friday, Aug. 22, 2025, the United Nations officially declared a famine in Gaza, the first ever in the Middle East, saying over 500,000 people are facing “catastrophic” hunger after nearly two years of war. UN experts blamed systematic obstruction of aid by ‘Israel’, while ‘Israel’ rejected the findings, calling them “Hamas lies.”
The famine, confirmed by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), currently affects Gaza City and is expected to spread to Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis by late September, potentially impacting nearly a third of Gaza’s population.
The IPC said Gaza’s food system has collapsed, with farmland destroyed, livestock wiped out, and fishing banned, while shortages of food, medicine, and fuel have intensified. UN aid chief Tom Fletcher warned the crisis was “entirely preventable” and should “haunt us all.”
