Norway’s Football Federation announced it will donate all profits from its upcoming World Cup qualifying match against 'Israel' to humanitarian aid in Gaza, citing concern over the ongoing civilian suffering there. The game is scheduled for Oct. 11 in Oslo.

“Neither we nor other organizations can remain indifferent to the humanitarian suffering and disproportionate attacks that the civilian population in Gaza has been subjected to for a long time,” said Norwegian Football Federation President Lise Klaveness on Tuesday.

“We want to donate the proceeds to a humanitarian organization that saves lives in Gaza every day and provides active emergency aid on the ground,” she added.

Ticket sales for the match are set to begin next week, but the federation has not disclosed the expected earnings.

The Israeli Football Association responded on Wednesday, urging Norway to also condemn the Oct. 7, 2023 attacks and captive-taking by Hamas. In a statement first published by The Telegraph, the 'Israeli' federation emphasized that the funds should not go to "terrorist groups" or “whale hunting,” referencing a controversial practice in Norway.

Norway said it is coordinating with UEFA and local police to ensure security at Ullevaal Stadium. Attendance will be limited by up to 3,000 tickets, reducing the usual 26,000-capacity crowd.

Since October 2023, 'Israel' has been unable to host international games at home for security reasons. Its “home” qualifier against Norway earlier this year was played in Hungary, where Norway won 4-2 in March.

Norway currently leads its five-nation qualifying group ahead of 'Israel'.
