VIDEO: Kneecap rapper Mo Chara faces London court over Hezbollah flag
Mo Chara , the rapper from Northern Ireland’s band Kneecap, also known as Liam O’Hanna, is set to appear in a London court on Wednesday, charged with a “terrorism-related offense” for displaying a Hezbollah flag during a concert.
On May 21, Liam O’Hanna was formally charged with raising the flag of the Hezbollah Lebanese political party, classified as a terrorist organization in the UK, during a concert in London on November 21, 2024.
He is also accused of shouting, “Go Hamas! Go Hezbollah!” during the performance.
The 27-year-old rapper is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court at 10 AM local time (9:00 GMT). The band has consistently denied any support for Hezbollah, describing the case as “political.”
'Israel' criticized the act, the Belfast-based group said in a post on X on Tuesday:
"Tomorrow, Mo Chara returns to Westminster Magistrates’ Court, at a time when the UK government continues to search for a distraction."
The band also urged fans to attend the hearing on Wednesday.
During an initial hearing in mid-June, Mo Chara’s lawyers argued that the charges were filed after the statutory six-month deadline. The case was then adjourned to late August, and the court is expected to review this point on Wednesday.
Kneecap has made headlines in recent months for its pro-Palestinian.
Founded in 2017, the band has a history of sparking controversy. To fans, its members are bold challengers of the status quo; to critics, they are dangerously extreme.
