In January 2024, Fayyad’s family was informed that she had been killed and were handed a body accompanied by personal belongings, including fragments of her ID and jewelry, which they buried.

Months later, on March 21, 2025, the family was notified that Bessan was in fact alive and being held in 'Israeli' detention. On August 17, the Palestinian Center for the Missing and Forcibly Disappeared confirmed that she had suffered a spinal injury, leaving her partially paralyzed.

Rights organizations say her case is not isolated but part of a broader pattern of enforced disappearances and manipulation of Palestinian remains. Satellite imagery has documented cemetery damage, mass graves, and tampering with bodies during 'Israeli' operations in Gaza.

Bessan’s story has drawn widespread attention online and from human rights advocates, who are calling for international investigations and accountability.

Hundreds of Palestinian families continue to face uncertainty regarding missing relatives, raising concerns over 'Israeli' kidnappings.
