Malnutrition deaths climb to 235, including 106 children, says Gaza Media Office
The Government Media Office in Gaza said Wednesday that the death toll from famine and malnutrition in the besieged enclave has risen to 235, including 106 children, warning that the humanitarian crisis has reached “catastrophic” levels.
According to figures documented by the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the fatalities include 129 adults, among them 19 women, 75 elderly people, and 35 men over the age of 18.
The statement said more than 2.4 million civilians in Gaza, including over 1.2 million children, are suffering from severe food insecurity amid the continued 'Israeli' blockade, closure of border crossings, and the prevention of food and medicine from entering.
It warned of alarming health indicators, including 40,000 infants under the age of one suffering from malnutrition, 250,000 children under five facing life-threatening food shortages, and 1.2 million children under 18 experiencing acute food insecurity.
The media office accused the Israeli Occupation of using starvation as a weapon of war in violation of international humanitarian law, describing it as a crime that amounts to genocide.
It called on the international community, the United Nations, and human rights and humanitarian organizations to urgently act to halt the worsening crisis, ensure the unrestricted delivery of food and medicine, and immediately lift the blockade by opening the crossings to save civilian lives.
