Medical teams at the Jordanian Field Hospital 7 in southern Gaza have performed specialized surgeries on children suffering from cleft palate and cleft lip deformities, according to the hospital’s senior maxillofacial surgeon.

The surgeries targeted children aged between 3 months and 3 years, many of whom suffer from severe malnutrition, difficulty swallowing, and complete dependence on infant formula, placing a heavy burden on their families.

The hospital commander stated that the operations were conducted under the directives of the Jordanian Armed Forces to provide the best possible medical and humanitarian services to Gaza’s residents. The medical and nursing teams involved were highly trained and experienced in managing such complex cases.

The senior surgeon explained that a lack of early treatment access, along with the absence of specialized medical staff in the area, had worsened the children’s conditions. As part of the mission, doctors from Nasser Medical Complex were trained inside the field hospital’s operating rooms to handle similar cases in the future.

The cases treated ranged from moderate to severe, including diagnoses such as wide bilateral cleft palates and complete cleft lips.

The complexity of the surgeries was further increased by delays in starting preoperative procedures due to the dire conditions in Gaza.

Families of the children expressed deep gratitude to King Abdullah II and the Jordanian field hospital staff for the essential medical care and services provided in the war-torn territory.
