Conflicting reports over alleged ‘Israeli’ embassy evacuation in Athens
Conflicting reports have emerged regarding claims that ‘Israeli’ embassy staff in Athens were evacuated due to rising anti-war protests in Greece.
The claims first appeared in the Hebrew-language edition of Israel Hayom, which reported that embassy personnel had been asked to leave their residences in the Greek capital amid escalating protests and ahead of a planned “March to Gaza” on August 10.
Shortly after, several outlets shared what appeared to be a denial attributed to the ‘Israeli’ embassy in Athens, stating that the evacuation reports were “false and baseless.” However, Roya News was unable to verify the authenticity of that statement, which has not been published on any official embassy channels.

Local Greek media outlet Ethnos also reported that the information remains unclear. While some news outlets initially ran headlines about the evacuation, several later amended their stories to suggest it was an isolated case or based on unconfirmed sources.
As of the time of writing, neither the ‘Israeli’ nor Greek governments have issued an official statement on the matter, and the ‘Israeli’ embassy in Athens has not responded to Roya News' request for comment.
The reported evacuation comes amid mounting public anger in Greece over ‘Israel’s’ war on Gaza. The Greek Communist Party (KKE) recently condemned the ‘Israeli’ ambassador’s comments and accused the Greek government of backing what it called a “murderous state.”
‘Israel’s’ military campaign in Gaza has killed more than 61,000 Palestinians since October 7, 2023, with nearly half of the victims being women and children.
