Egyptian media outlets have reported that two trucks carrying diesel fuel are expected to enter the Gaza Strip from Egypt on Sunday.

The move comes as Gaza continues to suffer from a severe lack of fuel due to the ongoing 'Israeli' blockade, which has drastically limited the entry of supplies.

“Israel’s decision to cut off electricity to Gaza’s main operational desalination plant... violates international humanitarian law and is further evidence of Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip,” said Erika Guevara Rosas, Amnesty International’s Senior Director for Research, Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns.

She added, “These inhumane and unlawful actions are a clear indication that Israel is continuing its policy of deliberately imposing on Palestinians in Gaza conditions of life calculated to bring about their physical destruction.”

The South Sea plant, which had been reconnected to the 'Israeli' grid in November 2024 after more than a year of blackout, is now operating at just 15 percent of its capacity. Production has fallen from 18,000 cubic meters of drinking water per day to only 3,000, significantly impacting residents in central and southern Gaza who rely on the facility for safe water.

The electricity crisis in Gaza began in October 2023 when then-energy minister Israel Katz ordered a halt to power supplied by the Israeli Electric Corporation. The decision led to the closure of Gaza’s only power station and plunged the territory into a blackout.
