Hamas strongly condemned the 'Israeli' military's interception of the Handala aid ship in international waters and the abduction of its passengers, calling the act a "crime of terrorism and piracy."

In a statement released early Sunday, Hamas said the incident was a blatant challenge to the will of humanity, accusing 'Israeli' forces of committing yet another act of piracy by preventing the humanitarian ship from reaching the besieged Gaza Strip, which continues to face "genocidal war and systematic starvation."

The group praised the courage of the international activists aboard Handala for attempting to break the blockade despite threats from 'Israeli' authorities. Hamas stated that their message of solidarity has been received by the Palestinian people in Gaza and by people around the world.

The movement also expressed appreciation for ongoing global efforts, particularly grassroots initiatives aimed at breaking the siege on Gaza, describing such actions as reflecting the conscience of humanity and exposing the complicity of some international actors in prolonging the suffering of Palestinians.

Hamas held the 'Israeli' government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, fully responsible for the safety of the aid workers and called on the international community to continue organizing aid ships and convoys to challenge the blockade.

The statement concluded by urging the United Nations and international organizations to fulfill their legal and humanitarian responsibilities, condemn the raid, and pressure 'Israel' to end its blockade and attacks on Gaza while holding 'Israeli' leaders accountable for crimes against humanity.
