Both Jordan and Palestine welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement that France intends to officially recognize the State of Palestine during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in September, describing the move as a historic and significant step toward realizing a two-state solution and ending the Israeli Occupation.

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the declaration “a victory for international legitimacy and UN resolutions,” emphasizing that it comes at a critical moment as Palestinians continue to face “ongoing Israeli aggression and systematic crimes in Gaza and the West Bank.”

The ministry stressed that France’s recognition would help protect the two-state solution and urged other European countries to follow suit and transform their words into concrete actions.

Similarly, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates described the French announcement as a step in the right direction. Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Dr. Sufian Qudah said the decision is essential to counter efforts aimed at denying the Palestinian people's inalienable right to self-determination and the establishment of a sovereign state on their national land.

He added that the move aligns with international efforts to recognize a Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Qudah also highlighted the importance of the upcoming high-level international conference on resolving the Palestinian issue, to be held in New York under the joint leadership of Saudi Arabia and France. The conference aims to mobilize international support for broader recognition of Palestinian statehood as part of the only viable path to a just and lasting peace in the region.

Both Jordan and Palestine reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation with regional and international partners to support Palestinian rights, achieve statehood, and end the decades-long occupation.
