VIDEO: 'Israeli' President visits Gaza Strip, defends 'Israeli' conduct under international law
'Israeli' President Isaac Herzog visited Gaza on Wednesday for the first time since October 7, 2023, telling soldiers that “intensive negotiations” were underway and expressing hope for “good news soon” regarding efforts to secure the release of captives.
Herzog’s comments come amid ongoing international and regional attempts to broker a ceasefire between 'Israel' and Hamas. While no details were given about the nature or timeline of the talks, speculation has grown about a potential deal involving a prisoner exchange and a halt to military operations.
During his visit, he also toured the controversial humanitarian aid mechanism set up by 'Israel' and the US, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which has faced international criticism for shooting people who attempt to get aid. Herzog defended the effort, claiming aid was being delivered in accordance with international law, and accused Hamas of trying to sabotage it.

Herzog also met with soldiers and commanders, including IOF Southern Command chief Maj. Gen. Yaniv Asor, and praised both reservists and active-duty troops for their efforts. He said their actions were helping push forward negotiations, describing the release of captives as “the most urgent mission.”
Herzog acknowledged the burden carried by reservists, thanked female surveillance soldiers for their role, and met with members of the Netzah Yehuda Battalion, reaffirming support for integrating Haredi soldiers into the army, many of whom have completely refused to join the army.
Meanwhile, conditions in Gaza remain catastrophic under relentless 'Israeli' attacks. Palestinian factions continue to insist that any deal must include a full ceasefire and the withdrawal of 'Israeli' forces.
