Netanyahu’s testimony canceled after food poisoning day before hearings

The Jerusalem District Court has canceled Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled testimony in his ongoing corruption trial, citing his current bout of food poisoning.

The hearings, originally set for Monday and Tuesday, will not be rescheduled this week and have been deferred until after the court’s summer recess, which ends on September 5.

Netanyahu’s lawyer, Amit Hadad, submitted a request to delay this week’s hearings after the prime minister fell ill Sunday night. While the State Attorney’s Office agreed to postpone the sessions and proposed alternative dates for Wednesday and Thursday, the court cited scheduling conflicts and opted to cancel the hearings altogether.

This marks yet another delay in Netanyahu’s testimony, which began in December 2024. Previous postponements have been attributed to medical issues, the war in Gaza, operations against Iran, international trips, and his responsibilities as head of government.

During the summer recess, 'Israeli' courts operate with limited activity, meaning Netanyahu will not return to the witness stand until at least September.
