Jordanian Army foils large-scale drug smuggling attempt from Syria
The Jordanian Armed Forces' Eastern Military Command thwarted a major attempt to infiltrate and smuggle narcotics from Syrian territory into Jordan early Tuesday morning.
Border guard forces in the Eastern Military Region, in coordination with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, successfully foiled the large-scale smuggling operation, the (JAF) said in a statement.
The statement explained that a group of smugglers attempting to cross the border illegally was detected. Quick-reaction patrols were deployed, and rules of engagement were applied, forcing the smugglers to retreat deeper into Syrian territory.
Intensified search and inspection operations led to the seizure of a significant quantity of narcotics. The confiscated materials have been transferred to the relevant authorities.
