A senior Iranian official said Sunday that 'Israel' attempted to assassinate President Masoud Pezeshkian during a key meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council amid the recent twelve-day war.

The official, speaking to Al Jazeera, claimed that the assassination attempt was part of an 'Israeli' plan aimed at toppling the Iranian regime. He added that 'Israel' deliberately targeted Pezeshkian during a high-level strategic meeting intended to coordinate Iran’s response to 'Israeli' attacks.

The attempt reportedly aimed to strike Iran's executive, legislative, and judicial leaders simultaneously in order to paralyze the state.

The official revealed that Tehran has launched a wide-scale investigation into the incident, suspecting the involvement of an internal agent. He warned that the attack “will not go unanswered” and that Israel “will pay the price.”

On Saturday, Iran’s Fars News Agency reported that President Pezeshkian was injured in the June 16 'Israeli' strike on the Supreme National Security Council. He reportedly sustained leg injuries during the attack.
