Iran’s decision to halt its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has drawn sharp reactions from both the United Nations and the United States, with officials describing the move as deeply troubling and a setback to diplomatic efforts.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said the announcement had raised serious concerns within the organization.

"We've seen the official decision, which is obviously concerning. I think the Secretary-General has been very consistent in his call for Iran to cooperate with the IAEA, and, frankly, for all countries to work closely with the IAEA on nuclear issues," Dujarric said.

The IAEA plays a central role in monitoring nuclear programs worldwide, and Iran's withdrawal from cooperation is seen as a blow to transparency and ongoing diplomatic efforts to manage nuclear proliferation.

The US State Department also reacted strongly. In a press briefing in Washington, spokeswoman Tammy Bruce condemned Iran’s decision, calling it "unacceptable."

"We'll use the word unacceptable, that Iran chose to suspend cooperation with the IAEA at a time when it has a window of opportunity to reverse course and choose a path of peace and prosperity," Bruce stated.
