The International Criminal Court (ICC) announced on Monday that it had detected and contained a "sophisticated and targeted" cybersecurity breach, marking the second such incident to hit the court in just two years.

The attack occurred “late last week,” according to an ICC statement, which described it as both "new" and "targeted." A spokesperson told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that the court could not provide a more specific timeline at this stage.

The breach comes at a sensitive time for the Hague-based institution, which recently hosted world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, for a NATO summit involving all 32 member states.

While the ICC has not publicly identified the source of the latest cyberattack, it remains under intense scrutiny due to its ongoing investigations and arrest warrants against several controversial global figures.

The court currently has a warrant out for Russian President Vladimir Putin, accusing him of orchestrating the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia. It is also detaining former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte over allegations of mass killings during his violent anti-drug campaign.

In another high-profile case, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of war crimes and crimes against humanity related to the ongoing war on Gaza, a move that drew fierce condemnation from Washington. In retaliation, Trump imposed sanctions on senior ICC officials, including Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan and four judges.
