Netanyahu thanks Trump for 'heartfelt support' over corruption trial
'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed heartfelt gratitude to US President Donald Trump on Wednesday following Trump’s strong public defense amid Netanyahu’s ongoing corruption trial.
“Thank you @realDonaldTrump. I was deeply moved by your heartfelt support for me and your incredible support for Israel and the Jewish people,” Netanyahu tweeted. “I look forward to continue working with you to defeat our common enemies, liberate our hostages and quickly expand the circle of peace.”
Trump had earlier called Netanyahu a “Great War Time Prime Minister” and denounced the trial as a “witch hunt.” Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump urged for the trial to be canceled or for Netanyahu to receive a pardon, citing his leadership during Israel’s recent conflict with Iran.
“Bibi and I just went through HELL together, fighting a very tough and brilliant longtime enemy of Israel, Iran, and Bibi could not have been better, sharper, or stronger in his LOVE for the incredible Holy Land,” Trump wrote.
Netanyahu’s corruption trial, which began in May 2020, includes charges related to accepting luxury gifts and attempting to influence media coverage. The trial has been repeatedly delayed, partly due to ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon.
Netanyahu has denied all accusations, and with Trump’s vocal backing, the Israeli leader appears determined to continue his political and diplomatic efforts amid mounting legal pressure.
