At least 50 killed in Gaza in 'Israeli' strikes since dawn, including dozens in school shelter

Palestinian media reported that at least 50 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since early Monday, including dozens in an 'Israeli' strike on a school sheltering displaced families in Gaza City and in a separate attack on a home in Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip.

At least 33 Palestinians were killed in an airstrike on Fahmi Al-Jarjawi School, which had been turned into a shelter, in the Al-Daraj neighborhood of Gaza City, according to Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for Gaza’s civil defense.

Basal told Agence France-Presse, “The death toll from the massacre at Fahmi Al-Jarjawi School in Al-Daraj has risen to at least 33 martyrs, with dozens injured — mostly children and some women.”

He added, “Several people are still missing under the rubble, and our teams are trying to reach them, but the civil defense lacks the tools and equipment to search and clear the debris.”

Basal described the scene, saying, “We recovered charred bodies of children and women,” noting that the strike directly targeted rooms that were filled with displaced people.

The 'Israeli' military said the strike targeted “senior terrorists operating in a command center for Hamas and Islamic Jihad located in an area that was previously a school (...) near Gaza City.” The airstrike caused fires in several rooms.

Civil defense shared video footage captured by activists showing a child trying to escape from one of the burning rooms, along with footage of rescue workers pulling out charred bodies and wounded individuals from inside the school.

The dead and injured were transported to Al-Shifa and Al-Ma’malani hospitals in Gaza City.

In a separate incident, 19 Palestinians were killed and others injured in an 'Israeli' airstrike targeting a home in Jabalia town, northern Gaza, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Local sources told Wafa that Israeli warplanes bombed the home of the Abdel Rabbo family in Jabalia, resulting in the death of 19 people, including children and women.
