Shooting outside CIA headquarters in Virginia

Early Thursday morning, security guards outside the CIA headquarters in Virginia shot a person, according to a source familiar with the situation who spoke to NBC News.

The CIA described the event as a "security incident" after shots were fired. The shooting was reported as nonfatal.

A federal law enforcement official confirmed the suspect is a woman but provided no further details.

The CIA’s main gate remains closed, with employees advised to use alternate routes, a spokesperson said.

Fairfax County police responded around 4 a.m. to assist CIA police with traffic control near Dolley Madison Boulevard in McLean and continue to provide support.
