American singer Chris Brown has been released on bail by a London court following charges of an alleged unprovoked attack at a nightclub in 2023.

The 36-year-old artist, who was not present at the Southwark Crown Court hearing on Wednesday, had been in custody since his arrest in Salford last week. He faces one count of grievous bodily harm after reportedly assaulting a music producer with a glass bottle at Tape, a nightclub in London’s Mayfair district.

Judge Tony Baumgartner granted bail under strict conditions, including the immediate payment of 4 million pounds (USD 5.3 million), with an additional 1 million pounds (USD 1.3 million) to be paid within a week. The court also required a total security of 5 million pounds (USD 6.7 million)—a financial guarantee designed to ensure the defendant returns for future hearings. Failure to comply with any bail condition could result in forfeiture of the full amount.

While Brown has yet to enter a plea, his release clears the way for him to launch his upcoming world tour, which kicks off on June 8 in Amsterdam. The tour includes performances in cities such as Manchester, London, Cardiff, Birmingham, and Glasgow throughout June and July.

As part of his bail terms, Brown must reside at an address known to the court, refrain from contacting the alleged victim, avoid the Tape nightclub, and surrender his passport unless traveling for the tour. He is also prohibited from applying for any new international travel documents.

Judge Baumgartner confirmed Brown’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 20, falling between his tour stops in Cardiff and London.

The singer’s co-defendant, 38-year-old Omololu Akinlolu—also known as HoodyBaby—is also facing charges in connection to the incident and is expected to appear in court alongside Brown.
