Beggar busted with over JD 700 in cash in north Jordan
Anti-vagrancy teams in northern Jordan apprehended an individual in Irbid who had collected JD 752 while begging, the Ministry of Social Development said in a statement Monday.
The individual was referred to the relevant authorities for legal action.
Following a review of the suspect’s records, authorities discovered that he owns property and is not in financial need, the ministry added.
The ministry urged the public not to give money to beggars, and instead to direct their donations to officially licensed charities and organizations running approved fundraising campaigns.
It noted that many beggars resort to deception, often claiming illness or hardship to solicit money.
Citizens are encouraged to report any suspected cases of begging by calling the ministry’s hotline at 0793344330 or by contacting anti-vagrancy teams operating across the country.
