Hamas issues statement on US-“Israeli” captive Edan Alexander
Hamas will release US-”Israeli” captive Edan Alexander today, Monday, as announced by the group’s military spokesperson Abu Obaida.
“The Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades announced on Monday, May 12, 2025, that they had decided to release Zionist soldier with an American citizenship Edan Alexander,” Abu Obaida said in a statement.
On Sunday, Hamas announced it would release Alexander, as part of talks with the United States towards a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Donald Trump celebrated the announcement, with the US president saying he hoped all captives would be released and fighting ended.
"I am grateful to all those involved in making this monumental news happen," Trump said in a post on social media, describing the release as a "good faith gesture," adding: "Hopefully this is the first of those final steps necessary to end this brutal conflict."
