VIDEO: ‘Israel’ honors Mossad agents behind pager blasts targeting Hezbollah
'Israel' publicly honored three operatives from the Mossad intelligence agency during this year’s Independence Day celebrations for their involvement in a covert operation targeting Hezbollah.
The agents were recognized for their role in a 2024 operation that resulted in the detonation of pager and radio devices reportedly used by Hezbollah members in Lebanon.
The three agents, whose identities remain classified, appeared masked and were referred to only by their initials during the ceremony. The recognition marked an unusual public acknowledgment of a Mossad operation.
The explosions, which occurred in September 2024, were reported to have happened in two waves—affecting pagers and radio devices—and resulted in several fatalities and over 3,000 injuries. Many of the injuries involved damage to the eyes. Fires were also reported in residential buildings and vehicles as a result of the blasts.
Due to wildfires near Jerusalem, parts of the Independence Day ceremony were conducted through pre-recorded video messages. One agent, who identified as a Mossad operations commander and a mother of three, said one of her children was serving in Gaza and Lebanon. She stated she was lighting the torch on behalf of Mossad’s operational staff.
Another agent introduced himself as a technological leader in Mossad and the child of immigrants from Europe. He dedicated his torch to technology professionals contributing to national security. The third agent identified as an intelligence officer and referenced raising his children with a commitment to national values.
The agents’ faces remained covered throughout the ceremony, reflecting the agency’s tradition of maintaining secrecy in operational matters.
