Public Security warns of wildfire risk as summer heat intensifies
As summer sets in and temperatures continue to climb, Jordan’s Public Security Directorate (PSD) has issued a strong warning about the growing risk of wildfires, driven by increasingly dry vegetation and rising heat levels.
In a statement released Thursday, the PSD urged the public to take extra precautions to protect the environment, agricultural lands, and both forest and fruit-bearing trees from the threat of fire. The directorate emphasized the importance of removing dry grass from roadsides, medians, and around critical infrastructure and heritage sites, noting that these areas are particularly vulnerable to ignition.
The statement also highlighted several common practices that significantly increase the risk of fire, including lighting campfires or barbecues near trees, discarding cigarette butts on roads, and burning dry vegetation in areas with dense plant cover. The PSD warned that such behaviors can rapidly escalate into uncontrollable wildfires.
In addition to calling for more responsible public behavior, the directorate stressed the importance of community cooperation and compliance with safety guidelines issued by relevant authorities.
The warning came alongside the launch of the PSD’s new nationwide campaign, which aims to raise environmental awareness and prevent seasonal incidents such as forest fires, drowning, and other summer-related hazards. The initiative is being coordinated with various government departments and local agencies.
