Switzerland to enforce Hamas ban starting May 15
Switzerland will enforce a nationwide ban on Hamas and affiliated organizations beginning May 15, the government announced Wednesday.
The move aims to prevent the Palestinian group from operating within Swiss borders or using the country as a financial or logistical base.
Approved by parliament in December, the new law was introduced following the October 7 event. The legislation grants Swiss authorities expanded powers, including the ability to impose entry bans, carry out expulsions, and block support for Hamas-related activities.
“This law gives us the necessary tools to act against any support for Hamas in Switzerland,” the government said in a statement.
Switzerland, known for its long-standing neutrality and role as a diplomatic mediator, continues to maintain ties with 'Israel'. However, it has faced increasing domestic criticism over its position on the ongoing aggression in Gaza.
