MBC Group announced on Tuesday that its Board of Directors has accepted the resignation of CEO Sam Barnett, effective April 30, 2025. The decision, according to a statement published on Saudi Arabia’s Tadawul platform, comes as Barnett plans to pursue new professional opportunities.

In his place, the board has appointed media executive Mike Sneesby as the new CEO, with his tenure beginning on May 1, 2025.

Sneesby brings extensive experience in the media industry. He previously served as CEO of Australia’s Nine Entertainment (2021–2024) and was the founding CEO of streaming platform Stan (2013–2021), which he successfully developed into one of Australia’s leading digital content platforms. He also held leadership roles at Kudu e-commerce and Integral, and is known for driving innovation, strategic partnerships, and major broadcasting deals.

Barnett, who became CEO of MBC in November 2011, will continue to serve as an advisor to the Board. Under his leadership, MBC solidified its status as a regional media powerhouse and successfully completed a public listing on the Saudi Stock Exchange in January 2024.

MBC Chairman Waleed Al Ibrahim praised Barnett’s contributions, saying, “Sam played a pivotal role in shaping MBC into a leader in the competitive regional media and entertainment industry. We wish him success in his next chapter in Europe.”

He added, “With ambitious plans for growth and expansion, I am confident Mike Sneesby—alongside our exceptional team—will lead MBC into a new era.”

Sneesby expressed enthusiasm for his new role, stating: “It’s an honor to join the team following Sam’s incredible legacy. MBC is at the forefront of media in the region, and we’ll continue to grow our global impact through innovation, creativity, digital transformation, and outstanding storytelling.”
