Abdul Nasser Al-Kamali
Top Houthi intelligence official killed in US airstrike on Yemen
Senior Houthi intelligence official Abdul Nasser Al-Kamali was killed in a US airstrike targeting multiple locations in Yemen, according to Yemeni sources.
Houthi-affiliated media confirmed that the US carried out a wave of airstrikes early Tuesday, hitting several sites including the capital Sanaa, Jarban, Al Jamimah, two locations on Kamaran Island in Al-Hudaydah, and three in Majzar District in the Ma'rib Governorate.
The strikes followed a Houthi announcement on Monday night claiming responsibility for a drone attack on a military site in "Israel", as well as targeting two US destroyers in the Red Sea with cruise missiles and drones. This came shortly after the "Israeli" military said it had intercepted a drone approaching from the east.
Areas under Houthi control have faced frequent US airstrikes since Washington launched its military campaign on March 15 in response to ongoing Houthi attacks on ships they claim are linked to the Israeli Occupation.
The Houthis say their continued strikes on US and "Israeli" vessels are in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. Their operations in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden began after the Gaza war erupted in October 2023. They paused attacks during a January truce but resumed them after "Israeli" forces renewed their assault on Gaza in March.
Houthi activity has disrupted one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes—used by roughly 12 percent of global trade—forcing many companies to reroute vessels around Africa.
